Sub-arc welding viewing system Plasma cutting software
The XVC-S from Xiris Automation Inc. is
designed for viewing sub-arc welding
processes. It provides the operator with a
real-time view of the weld during welding;
acts as a setup tool to position the welding
torch before welding; and can be used to
adjust the welding position or parameters.
Hypertherm has updated its Phoenix software with versions 6 and 8. 5. They include
new features to support the company’s
400-amp HyPerformance HPR400XD
plasma cutting system. These features
include improved marking cut charts,
piercing parameters, and auto-gas support.
Additionally, release 8. 5 adds updated cut
charts for the company’s Powermax45.
The software comes with Remote
Help™, which allows users to connect their
CNC remotely to their OEM and
Hypertherm for technical service. This feature
also allows for transfer or download of setup
files, part programs, and software updates.
Release 8. 5 features the patent-pending
CutPro Wizard™, which allows inexperienced operators to run a table in less than
five minutes, the company reports.
Operators are asked to load a part program
and select a cutting process from options
listed in large drop-down menus. They
then can choose to align the plate using
directional arrows on a touchpad screen,
select a scrap, and start the cut.

The system features a reference crosshair
and an adjustable field of view and provides
clear images, the company states. It has been
engineered to operate in high-temperature,
EMI environments.

Welding power source
ESAB Welding &
Cutting Products has
introduced the MTS
3500i multiprocess,
fourth-generation
inverter power source
for GMAW, GTAW, or SMAW.
The unit supports a selection of ferrous
and nonferrous alloys in GMAW mode,
using fixed slope and inductance controls.
Digital preset of voltage and amperage on all
processes is accessible on the front panel. A
switch on the back panel provides selection
of primary voltage.
Other features include adjustable arc
force, Touch Lift TIG™ start capability,
and an Auto Fan™ feature that automatically turns the fan motor on and off as needed for energy savings. The machine operates
on single-phase or three-phase power.

Weld-Ed Workshop for Welding
and Materials Joining Educators
June 15-26, 2009 – Texas State TC – Waco, Waco, TX
July 13-24, 2009 – Pennsylvania College of Technology,
Williamsport, PA
August 3-14, 2009 – Yuba College, Marysville, CA
Participants will receive information on the growing
need for welding technicians and a curriculum for use in
training them. Weld-Ed staff will discuss the opportunities
for attendees to create new AAS programs in welding
technician education and/or to infuse welding and materials
joining instruction into existing technician or technology
programs. Attendees will also learn about Weld-Ed materials
and services that are available for planning and implementing
welding and materials joining education at their institutions.
Participants will receive three semester credit hours on
completion of the course.
Weld-Ed is a National Science Foundation ATE National Center
of Excellence with the stated mission of promoting welding
education and training and assisting secondary and post
secondary schools around the country in developing and
implementing educational programs that support the creation
of welding and materials joining technicians
Fee: $500, participants are responsible for any travel,
evening meals, and weekend lodging and meals
